Academy 05 Verify

Closed means checked, not finished

Verification is the gate that keeps the record honest. A task marked done is activity. A decision marked verified is an observed fact.

Competency

Why it matters

  • Activity is easy to produce and easy to mistake for progress.
  • If the test is written after the work, it will be written to pass.
  • An outcome that cannot be observed is not a failure, it is unverified, and it should stay visible until it resolves.

How to run it

  • Write the verification test at the moment of assignment, in one sentence.
  • Prefer a fact someone else could check. A booked job, a recovered record, a closed exception.
  • Compare the outcome against the score, not against the effort spent.
  • Keep the record open when the test cannot be run, and label it unverified rather than closing it quietly.
  • Decide before rollout what would make you stop and pull the change back.
  • Have someone who did not do the work read the result.
  • Write the test before you see the answer, every time.

Evidence it ran

  • A verification test written before execution began.
  • A recorded result stated as an observable fact.
  • Any unverified decision still visible on the board.

Competency pulls

The skills this stage draws on, written in our own words and taught against a real decision in your shop.

  • Rollout decisions an operator has to make before a tool touches customers.
  • A delivery playbook that treats review as part of the work, not after it.
  • Evaluation mindset: write the test before you like the answer.
